Introduction

The book, The Story of Grand Rapids was edited by Z. Z. Lydens (Grand Rapids, Michigan: Kregel Publications, 1966). A subject card file, citing primarily newspaper articles was prepared during the project and serves as an indirect index to Grand Rapids newspapers. When a name or subject appears on these cards, it often leads to interesting and useful information that will enhance family history.

The cross-reference index serves not only to give information alphabetically but also to see subjects listed in more than one place. The Search Committee of Western Michigan Genealogical Society will copy these newspaper articles as part of their hourly search requests described elsewhere on this WMGS site.
