We are pleased to hear of your interest in family history in the
West Michigan area. The WMGS has formed a Search Committee made up of trained volunteers
who are willing, for a fee, to examine records in our collection at the Grand Rapids
Public Library. Our volunteers do not search the local court house records in other
locations.
The
list
of resources (return to this page with your back button) will give you an
idea of the library's holdings. You are welcome to check specific sources that you wished
searched. Unless you have one specific request, we must have a family group sheet on one
family, not multiple pages of computer print-outs. If your request does not comply, it
could cause a delay in research or we may have to return your request. A simple
four-generation chart would also be helpful to our volunteers.
We will do limited microfilm reading for a specific time and place,
but we do not wish to duplicate the information that you have collected. If you are not
familiar with a census search, please inform us.
For the amount of $15.00 per hour, (a minimum of one hour, maximum
of three hours per request), we will search a family unit. This will include supplies, up
to five photocopies (per hour searched) and postage in the USA. An additional charge of
$2.00 is requested for places outside the USA. Monies are used to
enlarge the Genealogical Collection at the Grand Rapids Public Library,
promote genealogical education and preserve the genealogical records of
Western Michigan.
